2017 OCDS Congress

Welcome to the website of the San Antonio community of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS). Our community was canonically erected on May 27, 1956. We meet on a monthly basis, usually on the second Sunday of the month. (An exception is made during May, due to Mother's Day, and when Easter falls on a second Sunday.)

We begin with 11:00 a.m. Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower. After Mass, we have refreshments and social time, followed by a business meeting. We then break out into our study groups for approximately one and a half hours. Studies range from the basics of Carmel and the Liturgy of the Hours to Church documents and the writings of our Carmelite saints. After study group, we come back together for a talk by our Spiritual Assistant, and end with Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours at approximately 4:00 p.m.

In September, our usual meeting format is replaced by a Day of Recollection to begin the new study year. Also, in the spring, generally March or April, we have a weekend retreat.

Currently we have just over 40 members, ranging from aspirants who are in their first period of discerning a vocation to Carmel, to those definitively professed.
